1. About
This database was orginally designed to catalogue books for a friend but can be used to catalogue DVDs or CDs in addition to books. Its pretty easy to use but I thought I had better included a quick helpfile for public release. If you have any comments about this software please email me, john@geekandproud.co.uk.

2. Requirements
Any Windows based computer running Access 2000 or later. It may work on older versions of Access but this isn't recommended.

3. Installation
To install this database just unzip it to any directory on your computer.

4. Opening the Database
Simply doubleclick the icon and OK through any dialog boxes. When the main screen has appeared you are ready to begin.

5. Adding A Book
Click the first button marked "Add New Book". On the following screen input the details of the book you wish to add to the database.
* LogNum	-	System generated ID number
* ISBN		-	International Standard Book Number, usually located on the back of the book or inside the frontcover
* Title		-	Title of the book
* Author	-	Person who wrote the book
* Series	-	Only use if the book is part of a series. eg: book 2 of 3
* Location	-	Physical location of the book in your house. Location also covers conceptual locations like books that you are currently reading and have no current fixed location or have on order
* Cover Artist	-	Person or company that designned the cover artwork
* Publisher	-	Company that produced the book for sale
* Date		-	Date the book was entered on to the database
* Genre		-	The style of book. eg: Sci-Fi, Reference
* Comments	-	Any notes you would like to make about the book

6. Searching For A Book
The database currently allows you to search for books using three different methods: ISBN, Author and by Title.
	a) Find ISBN
	Enables you to search for exact matches to the ISBN you input.
	b) Find Author
	Enables you to search for books by the same author. Use the wildcard * to search for similarly named authors.
	c) Find Title
	Enables you to search for books by the title. Use the wildcard * to search for similarly named books.

7. Genre Administration
This screen allows you to create and modify genres and also to view all the books in any current genre.
	a) Add Genre
	To add a new genre to the system click the button marked "Add Genre". On the following screen input the name of the genre you wish to create the click "Close". The new genre is added.
	b) Delete Genre
	To delete a genre that is no longer required click the button marked "Delete Genre". On the following screen use the arrows to scroll through the existing genres until you reach the one you wish to delete. Once you have found it, click the Bin button. The genre is now deleted. Then click the "Cancel" button to close this window.
	c) List All Books
	To display all the books in any genre click the "List All Books" button. Type in the name of the genre you wish to display and hit OK. This search method returns exact matches only.
	d) Close
	Exits the administration screen.

8. Location Administration
This screen allows you to add/delete locations or physical storage points.
	a) Add Location
	To add a new location to the system click the button marked "Add Location". On the following screen input the name of the location you wish to create the click "Close". The new location is added.
	b) Delete Location
	To delete a location that is no longer required click the button marked "Delete Location". On the following screen use the arrows to scroll through the existing locations until you reach the one you wish to delete. Once you have found it, click the Bin button. The location is now deleted. Then click the "Cancel" button to close this window
	c) Close
	Exits the administration screen.

9. Series Administration
This screen allows you to create and modify book series and also to view all the books in any existing series.
	a) Add Series
	To add a new series to the system click the button marked "Add Series". On the following screen input the name of the series you wish to create the click "Close". The new series is added.
	b) Delete Series
	To delete a series that is no longer required click the button marked "Delete Series". On the following screen use the arrows to scroll through the existing series until you reach the one you wish to delete. Once you have found it, click the Bin button. The series is now deleted. Then click the "Cancel" button to close this window.
	c) List All Books
	To display all the books in any series click the "List All Books" button. Type in the name of the series you wish to display and hit OK. This search method returns exact matches only.
	d) Close
	Exits the administration screen.

10. Export Books On Order
This option creates a spreadsheet of all the books currently on order with a company like Amazon or another supplier. The user can specify a location to save the spreadsheet.

11. Full Export
This allows the user to export a complete list of all books currently entered on to the database for printing or data analysis.

12. Database Backup
This function exports all the tables in the database to the users default documents folder, appending the files with the extension ".CPY". A system administrator will be required to reimport these files into the database if the data is unrecoverable.

13. Download
