4Play Records

As part of my BTEC coursework. We had to design flyers to advertise a record label launch party. The label was called 4Play (make of that what you will, I didn't come up with the name. That was my tutor's job...).

Return to the gallery collection here.

Our first task was to create a flyer advertising the launch party. We had to include the bands playing, the venue, ticket prices and contact information. We were also required to create a promotion of our own choosing. I decided to do a free drink promotion.

To create this flyer I used the paint bucket tool with its linear gradient on the background. I then change the colour shift slightly towards the red. Then I used the noise filter.

The large 4 in the logo was created by putting the background through multiple filters and stitching them together.

Halfway through the project one of the bands was pulled from the line up and we had to change the flyers accordingly.

Due to the immense printing costs involved with producing colour flyers, we were informed that the flyers would printed in black and white.

To compensate for the loss of colour I changed to information text to white, to make it stand out and the logo text to black for an interesting contrast.

We next had to produce a full page (A4) advert for the music magazine Kerrang. The advert was informing readers that a band had just changed record labels and their next album would come out on the 4Play label.

To make the logo stand out more I used the colour burn filter on the 4.

The advert had to be in duotone, to cut down on costs.

This is the Demons & Wizards album cover.

We were told to include a picture of the new album in the advert.

4Play were going to have an album at the launch party, but due to its "pornographic" cover, shops were pulling out of stocking it.

We had to design a new cover for the CD. The brief was very simple, create a new album cover while still retaining the bands on the original CD. This is my front and inside cover.

This is the back cover for the CD.

I created this one at home and had to transfer it to college on a floppy. After I'd added the track listings at college. On the way home the disk was struck down with Sudden Floppy Death and I lost the track listings.

This version is in the pre-transfer state. You can get a basic idea on how the final version looked.
