I based this on the novel "Look to Windward" by Iain M. Banks (ISBN: 1-84149-059-8). Its quite a good book.

Basically the big ring thing is the Masaq orbital. I couldn't be bothered to wait for the nebula to render (volumetric texture, tsk!) , so I dropped in a texture called Plasma Fire off a bloke called Steve's website. Again no URL, sorry!
